    Double Gold for Alex

    Congratulations and well done to Preston Harrier Alex Bernstein on completing an excellent back to back double gold achievement, at two of the season’s premiere athletic competitions. His first Gold medal was won on Saturday 13 July, as part of the Lancashire team at the English schools competition held at the Alexander stadium in Birmingham.     Wesham Inter Club Road Race

    Mon 22 July 2019, Salwick The next Inter club race is Wesham. Start at 7.30pm. The venue is BNFL Car Park, Lea Lane, Salwick. (Opp. Smiths Arms). Don’t forget to bring your race series number and pins. Anyone who has not yet got a number please look for Steve Taylor in the car park. Steve will also have a full range of club kit available for sale, including vests, vestop tees, training tees and hoodies.

    English Schools T & F Championship

    12 & 13 July 2019, Birmingham Harriers helped Lancashire Schools earn their best ever medal haul of 8 at the English Schools Track & Field Championship in Birmingham. Intermediate hammer thrower Alex Bernstein, ranked 2nd in the country, threw brilliantly to win gold with a throw of 63.47 metres, a metre further than his closest rival, Avon’s Tony Coniber. Distance runner Kian Davis ran a measured 3000m to secure the gold in the senior boys’ event, finishing 0.8 seconds ahead

    Don Ashton Memorial Tockholes Fell Race

    Thur 4 July, Tockholes, Darwen A mid-week evening outing saw 123 runners out on the West Pennine Moors to enjoy this 5.8mi fell race, with about 900ft of climbing. Don Ashton, after whom this race is now named, was a renowned fell runner who earned veterans English and British titles around the late 1980s to early 1990s, running for Blackburn Harriers, then Darwen Dashers. Back to 2019, and mercifully cooler weather, amidst a hot few weeks, and hard ground made for fast times

    Carnforth 20 Barriers Race

    Tue 2 July, Carnforth The annual Carnforth 20 Barriers race attracted 175 entrants on a lovely sunny evening made for running. The route, which was revised in 2017 owing to a local quarry closure, of approximately 5 miles and 525 feet of climb, is an ideal introduction to trail racing for the uninitiated.     Witton Park Trail Relays

    Thur 28 June 2019, Blackburn The very popular Witton Park relays in Blackburn returned last week after a year`s absence. On a beautiful sunny evening 133 teams of three runners each massed on the field in preparation for their own leg of 3.65k and a 150m climb to the top of Billinge Woods and back to the main field. The terrain was a mix of grass and hard trail, whilst care had to be taken to avoid raised tree roots through the wooded area. With the ground dry it made for som

    North of England Masters T & F Championship

    Sat/Sun 29/30 June 2019, Hull One of our relatively new Masters athletes, Carol Holt, went over the Pennines to compete last weekend in the 100 & 200m track races. The 100m was on the Saturday and the 200m on the Sunday so Carol stayed over saving a repeat journey and maximising recovery. She has only been taking part in races this year.     Black Fell Race

    Sat 6 July 2019, Kettlewell This year`s Black Fell race, from the Yorkshire Dales village of Kettlewell, was an English Championship event. The race was the fourth of the six counters in the championship, of which there are two short races, two medium, and two long races. Black Fell is a medium classed race and covered 14k, with 700m of overall ascent.     Penny Lane Striders 10K Road Race

    Sun 23 June 2019, Liverpool The penultimate 10k race in Preston Harriers road race championship this year was the Penny Lane Striders 10k held on Sunday 23rd June at the Riversdale Police Club in Aigburth, Liverpool. The fast course goes along the River Mersey Promenade and through Otterspool Park and then back to the Police Club to finish.
