The second fixture of the Mid Lancs cross country season was held at Wilson Playing Fields, Hyndburn. The venue has been used countless times, but this year there was a different finish location which meant a wider and more organised space for runners to pass through. Much of the course is technical in nature, with thin tracks running through the woods, making overtaking difficult. With recent rain, the courses cut up as the day progressed. Daniel Beb

Sat 2 Nov 2019, Mansfield Preston Harriers’ junior teams placed well in the muddy conditions at Mansfield, holding their own against opposition from all over the country. The junior men were the highest placed, with the team of Kian Davis, Jack Dee-Ingham and Ben Preddy coming 7th out of 44 complete teams. In the under 17 men’s race, the Preston trio of Max Cunningham, Liam Blackwell and Harry Everett were ninth out of 82 teams. The under 17 women finished 13th in their race,

This year Preston Harriers were only able to get a single team into the Championship as there is now a great demand for one of the 250 places available and a pre-selection process is applied. The event was hosted by Dark Peak Fell Runners at the foot of the Upper Derwent reservoir and on arrival at the start/finish area, participants were blown away by the spectacular Upper Derwent reservoir dam wall cascading water down noisily.

Despite a busy race calendar last weekend, Preston Harriers sent a large contingent to the Green Drive 5 which included the Lancashire 5 Mile Championships and ran away with first place! The City of Preston 10k was the setting as the club’s road championship came to end with Emma Essex-Crosby and Simon Collins securing the points they needed to snatch the men’s and women’s open category titles on the last day of season, with both athletes claiming their second championship titles. A large contingent of Preston Harriers descended on the Fairclough 5 this weekend, continuing the tradition of supporting smaller, club organised races.
