Harriers Round up May 31st – June 6th 2021
The big Harriers performance of the week came from Mhairi MaClennan who ran in the British and European women’s 10,000m Championships in Birmingham on Saturday June 5th. MacLennan put in a gutsy performance fighting against a stich over the final three laps to finish 16th in a time of 33:02.71. At the start of the week (Monday May 31st) 14 Harriers made the trip over to Manchester for the Trafford Medal meet. Highlights include Jacob Mason winning race six of the 100m events

Harriers Round-up June 7th- June 13th 2021
The big performances this week were recorded by Preston’s rising star Patrick Dever over in America at the NCAA Division 1 Championships where on June 9th he won the 10,000m title in a championship record and PB time of 27:41.87. This makes him the fastest ever Preston Harrier over this distance on the track, places him second in Britain for the distance in 2021 and is just 13 seconds off the Olympic qualifying standard. West Nab Fell Race
Sat 29 May 2021, Meltham Six Preston Harriers made the trip over to the West Yorkshire village of Meltham for the West Nab Fell Races, featuring races all through the age groups from Under 9 to Seniors. In the Under 11 Girls race Olivia Wood finished 12th in 14:31. The Links brothers, having just moved up an age group, ran in the Under 15 Boys race, with Adam 28th (24:08) and Matthew 46th (28:59). Stateside Harriers
Preston Harriers have a number of athletes based in America on sports scholarships and last week Patrick Dever was twice in action at the NCAA West Preliminaries, taking 5th place in the 10,000m on the 26th May in a time of 29:11.08 and then finishing 3rd in heat 1 of the 5000m on the 28th in a time of 13:58.16. The results mean Dever has qualified for the NCAA Championship for both the 5000m and 10000m.

Trafford Distance Open Thirteen Harriers made the trip over to Manchester for the Trafford Distance open event on Tuesday 18th May, with eleven athletes running new PBs and several podium finishers, testament to the hard work put in over the winter months. In the 800m events Daniel Bebbington (1:51.9) and Sam Smalley (2:12.9 PB) both won their 800m heats, with Ethan Chadwick second to Smalley in a PB time of 2:13.9. Bernstein throws for Britain
Preston Harriers’ Alex Bernstein competed for team GB in the hammer throw at the Loughborough International on Sunday 23May, a key competition opportunity in the British Athletics Olympic Performance Pathway which aims to provide opportunities to prepare, confirm and support promising young athletes on their journey towards future Olympic success. Windermere marathon
Steve Townhill set himself the task of taking on the Windermere marathon which despite featuring several climbs is described as the friendliest and most beautiful UK marathon. Despite the challenge Steve was able to break the 4-hour barrier finishing in a time of 03:52:36.

Preston Harriers round up May 25 – May 30
Four Preston Harriers made to trip to Manchester for the Trafford AC Grand Prix on 25thMay, with victories on the track for Curtis Mitchell (110m hurdles), Joshua Ingham (400m Heat 3) and Emily Rankin (800m Heat 1), whilst in the field events Scott Sinclair stepped, hopped, and jumped to victory in the triple jump with a new PB of 13.94. The Manchester Invitational was held on 27thMay with Tiarnan Crorken taking fourth in the men’s 1500m, setting a new PB of 3:41.36, and Mh
