Harriers round-up February 28th to March 6th 2022
The big performance of the week came from Preston’s star male distance runner Patrick Dever, who on March 6th recorded the fifth fastest 10,000 metre time in British athletics history, breaking the club record in the process, as he finished in 6th place at the Sound Running TEN event in California, recording a time of 27:23.88. Harriers round-up Feb 21st -27th 2022
The big event of week was the England National Cross country championships, one of the biggest fixtures in world cross country and possibly the biggest even the majority of amateur runners will ever compete at. Harriers had representatives in the senior women’s and men’s events as well as the U15 boys event. Katie Lakeland was first harrier home in the women’s event finishing inside the top 400, Whilst Wes Wilkinson was first senior male home, finishing just outside the top 4

European Masters Athletics Indoor Championships – Portugal
Braga, Portugal, 20th-27th Feb. 2022 Three Preston Harriers attended these championships: Sharon Wilkinson (W50), Carol Holt (W40) and Alan Appleby (M70). Sharon was competing in the 200m and 400m, Carol the 200m and Alan in the cross country and 3000m. The competitions started on the 20th with the cross country races held at the Cavalry Regiment 6 headquarters on the outskirts of the town. English National Cross Country Championships Saturday 26th February 2022
After a gap of two years, the English National cross country championships finally returned to one of the best championship venues on the circuit, and the one that is recognised as the iconic home of “the National”, Parliament Hill Fields, in London. The weather was bright and sunny, and with good views from Parliament Hill itself to the famous London skyline. There were huge crowds watching the races and with over 9,000 pre entries across ten races, even with the usua l drop
