Blackpool Cross Country, Saturday 15th January 2022

The 4th fixture of the Mid Lancs cross country season took place at Lawsons Ground in Blackpool and there were two individual race winners from Preston Harriers. Matthew Clark continued in his good run of form to win the Under 15 boys’ race, and Carla Davies won the senior ladies race. Carla ran from the front early on and slowly built a lead over second placed Chloe Leather (Liverpool Pembroke Sefton) winning by twenty-four seconds. The ladies team packed in well too, and took a team win on the day by just two places ahead of Lancaster University, who are the club’s main rival for the Division One title. Jamie Robinson, in her first cross race of the 21/22 programme, finished 8th, and Katey Markland was 21st. Kate Lakeland had a fine run for 25th and there were runs too from Marian Hesketh, Julie Tyrer, Sue Wickham, Kari Edwards and Adela Nuttall.

The men’s team had an excellent turn-out overall but couldn`t do anything about a strong Lancaster University team who had the race winner in Jacob Cann and they placed five runners in the top eight for a comprehensive team win on the day, extending their lead in the men`s Division One competition over Preston. For Harriers A team, Wes Wilkinson finished 18th and Will Metcalf was 20th. Jack Smith was 40th, Mariusz Kovacs 48th, Steve Hallas 80th, and Mark Lee 88th. In the earlier races, Ava Jones finished a very good 4th in the U15 girls race and Natasha Cooke was 25th. In U13 girls, Anna Pilling was 17th & Lilly Washington 24th.
