British Fell Relay Championship

Preston Harriers is seeking 12 intrepid runners looking for a great day out in the Lakeland fells. The Club has 2 teams in this year’s British Athletics Fell and Hill Running Championships.

1. Men’s’ Open Team (6 men, any mix of ages) 2. Open Team (any mix of 6 men/women and ages)

The event will be based in Grasmere with the routes taking in sections of the Bob Graham Round, Fairfield Horseshoe, Grisedale Horseshoe, Old Counties Tops and Hodgson Brothers’ Mountain relay. Parking is at the show field in Grasmere (2 cars per team), with the event centre being about a 15 minute walk away, in a field south of the Travellers’ Rest pub. All legs start and finish at the event centre, and facilities will be available here, including race control, start and finish, first aid, refreshments and toilets.

The race will be the usual four leg format. Leg 1 – Solo runner, partially flagged, 5 miles / 2400ft taking in Seat Sandal Leg 2 – Run in pairs, partially flagged, 6.7 miles / 2800ft taking in Great Rigg Man, Fairfield and a rough descent via Cofa Pike to Deepdale Hause before returning via Grisedale Hause Leg 3 – Run in pairs, navigation leg. Map provided at the start, the rest is up to you! Leg 4 – Solo runner, fully flagged, 4.3 miles / 2000ft goes out over Heron Pike via Alcock Tarn

The minimum age is 18 years old (on day of relay) apart from Leg 4, where the minimum age is 16 years old.

To run in a Preston Harriers team you must have up to date club membership (which gives you an England Athletics registration number), be a 1st claim runner for Preston Harriers and wear a Preston Harriers club vest in the race.

All runners on all legs will have to carry the full FRA kit (Waterproof whole body cover with hood and taped seams, hat, gloves, map and compass suitable for navigating the course, whistle and food / emergency rations) and you will need fell shoes to run in. Handing over a bumbag with equipment at the end and beginning of legs is not allowed.
