Calder Vale Summer 10 Mile Road Race

Sun 28 July 2019, Calder Vale One of the club championship events saw 12 Harriers participating in this challenging race although the summer part of it had disappeared. Much of the route around Bleasdale and Oakenclough was in low cloud and drizzle; this meant more pleasant conditions to run in, but the usually lovely views of the countryside were obscured.

First Harrier back to sample the delicious food and drink put on by the local WI ladies in the village hall was Neil McDonald in 1.07.30 and he was closely followed by Mariusz Kovacs in 1.07.56. They were 24th and 26th in the race and next Dougie Potter finished in 1.15.42, then Maciej Jarno followed in 1.19.07. He was in front of Alan Appleby, having passed him at the 7 mile mark; Alan finished first MV70 in 1.19.48. Andrew Tranter flew down the hill to the finish in 1.22.53 and Emma Essex-Crosby posted 1.25.29 (recovering from her Thunderball experience to place first FV35). Ian Patterson was next in 1.32.41, chased in by Julie Tyrer in 1.34.52. Susan Ashcroft completed another of her challenges this year in good style with a time of 1.36.56 and Angela Tranter had a determined run to finish in 1.42.16 with Sue Wickham gallantly completing the course in 1.46.23.

154 runners took part and Joseph Beech was the clear winner in 55.44, Dionne Allen was first lady in 1.03.44.
