Cathy’s report on the Ribble Valley 10km event

On New Year's Eve a number of runners, including ladies' captain Cathy Flitcroft, took part in the Ribble Valley 10km. Cathy shared her run report below.

31st December saw 8 Preston Harrier athletes complete the Ribble Valley 10k which also incorporated the North of England Championships. This was deemed to be a fast course overall but with an undulating first 2 miles to test the legs.

Whilst a 2 man battle was going on at the front of the race, eventually won by Marc Scott of Richmond and Zetland with a time of 28:46, a further circa 1500 athletes pushed themselves around the lanes of Clitheroe.

In a very strong field of runners, first home for Preston Harriers was Tiarnan Crorken, returning from America and running his first 10k race since 2017. Tiarnan stormed round, finishing 26th overall in a spectacular time of 31:18, fastest 10k by a Preston Harrier in 2023.

Next home was Luke Sutton (Junior) finishing 12th in his age category with 34:43, improving on last year's position in this race.

Hot on Luke's heels was our first Preston female finisher, Carla Davies (F35) - not only finishing first in her age category, but finishing 8th overall with a time of 34:57. An inspiration for all athletes that age isn't a barrier!

Next across the line for the Harriers were the trio of Alex Venables (V40) 37:52, Steve Hallas (V50) 39:17 and Stuart Nixon (V40) 39:20.

Cathy Flitcroft (F60) then followed, with Cathy securing first in her age group 45:03.

Judith Deakin (F75+) completed her first 10k of the year in 1:15:13 and also came 3rd in her age category.
