A large number of Preston Harriers represented the county at the English Schools Cross Country Championships. The competition was held at the Norfolk County Showground in Norwich, so quite a long trip to get there. Conditions on the day were mostly dry, although it was a little windy, and a very flat course led to some very quick races,
First race of the day was the intermediate girls with Eleanor Ward having a solid race to finish just outside the top 100 with Sophie Rotherham also competing. In the junior boys Thomas Barnes and Ethan Warren represented the County Schools for the first time, gaining some valuable big race experience. In the junior girls race there were four Harriers competing. Darcy Lonsdale put in a strong performance to finish in 37th, with Scarlet South and Alissa Derbyshire also finishing in the front half of the field, and Jessica Watson completing the quartet.
In the Intermediate boys Will Howard was the first Harrier to finish in 60th place, with Ben Preddy following in the pack along with Niall Higham. In the senior girls the Lancashire team only consisted of two athletes, one being Preston’s Blythe Fourie who had a great race finishing in 63rd at bottom age.
The final race of the day was the senior boys, with three Preston Harriers selected for the county, and all having superb races to finish near the front of the race. First home was Nathan Dunn in 18th, closely followed by Tiarnan Crorken in 20th and Jake Lonsdale in 43rd.
