Great Hameldon Hill Race

Sunday 7th May, Accrington

Another beautiful morning saw 9 Juniors and 4 seniors take part in the Great Hameldon Hill Race. This was the 3rd Race in the Preston Harriers Junior Fell Championship and was kicked off by another newcomer to the junior fell scene, Ella Sturzaker. She had a tremendous run in the under 11 Girls race, finishing the course in 15:57min to earn maximum points in her age category.

Next to follow in the under 13 race was the excellent Vladimir Wiggins, the much improved Jamie Hawtin and the unstoppable Grace Horne. Vladimir finished 6th in 11:28min, Jamie was close behind in 13:32min and Grace was 64 seconds later in 14:36min.

The under 15 race saw Luke Suffolk produce another fine run in 16:22min and was first Harrier home claiming 6th place overall, closely followed by a brilliant run by Aaron Halliday in 17:01min, this was followed by debutant Eva Sturzaker, older sister of Ella, who ran a great first championship race in 17:40min and a steady performance from Arran Baldwin in 19:22min completed the Preston Harrier contingent in this race.

The Senior race saw Emily Wiggins gutsy performance in the under 18 race, she completed the course in 1:13:02, finishing 3rd in her age category. The men’s race had a returning from injury Gethin Butler who ran a brilliant 41:00 to claim 9th position and 2nd Vet 45, he was closely followed by the ever improving Oliver Heaton, 48 seconds later in 41:48, finishing 12th overall. Roy Parkinson was 18th Vet 50 in 53:39 and Olga Wiggins had another great run to finish 6th Vet 35 in 1:12:56. 248 runners completed the race.
