Harriers round up 28th June – 4th July


BMC Trafford Gold standard track meeting 29th June 2021

The week’s events began with the BMC Trafford Gold standard meet on Tuesday, were Josef Wilson recorded a new 800m PB of 1:56.83 and Matthew Clark ran a new 1500m PB of 4:32.75.

Fast 5k road race, Wigan, 30th June 2021

On the Wednesday, the road running fraternity gathered in Wigan for the Fast 5k, held at the Three Sisters Go kart track, where the ever improving Luke Sufforlk ran a new PB for 16:40 in the B race.

Mid Lancs Track & Field League 3rd July & North of England Track & Field League 4th July

It was a busy weekend for the track and field teams despite the frequent downpours and occasional thunderstorms, with Preston Harriers fielding teams to the Mid Lancs League on Saturday and North of England League on Sunday. Despite the interesting weather, Saturday’s Mid Lancs League brought a visit to Lancaster and strong performances from all involved, especially the younger members, on a day when personal bests were plentiful. On the track, wins came for Ben Roberts (100m U13), Lucy Poole (300m U17), Cieran Milligan (800m U15), Corey Middleton (80m Hurdles U15) whilst on the field wins came for George Lowe (High Jump U17, Shot Put U17, Javelin U17), Ben Roberts (High Jump U13), Lyra Stretch (High Jump U13) and Isabelle Duckett (Long Jump U17). Personal best performances went to Ben Roberts (100m, High Jump, Shot), Aaron Connell (100m, High Jump, Long Jump), Emilia Simpson (100m, Long Jump), Eva Whiteside (100m, 200m, Javelin), Thomas Kelsall (200m), Isabelle Duckett (200m, Long Jump), Hollie Johnson (200m, High Jump, Javelin), Ruby Caffrey (300m), Cieran Milligan (400m), Ava Jones (800m), Sarah Winstanley (800m), Ross McKelvie (3000m), Lucie Duckett (70m Hurdles), Isaac Allen (75m Hurdles), Lyra Stretch (High Jump, Long Jump) and Ella Johnson (Long Jump, Shot).

The Seniors were out in Ellesmere Port on Sunday for the North of England League and there were strong performances from Sophie Warden (400m Hurdles), Miri Luft (High Jump), Tom Booth (Pole Vault) and both the 4×100 and 4×400 Women’s relay teams, who all came in first place. Conditions suited the throwers with the entire hammer team (Ben Read, Alex Proffitt, Tam Dickinson) achieving personal bests, George Lowe and Luke Suffolk gaining PBs in Javelin, Verity Glassey (Shot) and Will Walmsley (Discus) rounded out some great personal performances here. Other PB performances came from Jack McLoughlin (100m, 200m), Ethan Hallas & Emily Rankin (100m), Carol Holt (200m), Katie Littlefair (400m), Catherine Rankin (800m), Miri Luft (100m Hu), Luke Suffolk (Pole Vault) and Ben Read made it a great day for him with personal bests in the 400m Hurdles and Long Jump to add to his Hammer PB.

Elsewhere, hammer thrower Alex Bernstein threw a new personal best at the National Athletics League.

Chester Ultra 50 and Lostock Hall Carnival 5k

The weekend saw Harriers in action across a wide variety of events, with Julie Tyrer and Ian Patterson completing the Chester Ultra 50 in around 12 hours 24 minutes, on what must have been a long tough day. Closer to home, 8 Harriers lined up at the Lostock Hall Carnival 5k with Luke Suffolk (17:25) and Matthew Clark (18:21) both securing top 10 finishes, with Suffolk taking 3rd place on the day. David Watson (19:26), Neil McDonald (19:56), Kenneth Beazley (22:00), Steve Boardman (22:05), Victoria Duckett (24:12) and Alan Littler (26:06) also featured.

Edenfield fell race Sunday 4th July 2021

Finally on Sunday, it was the turn of the mountain runners, with the Edenfield fell race, where Alaistair Palmer took 6th place in a time of 48:38.
