Harriers round up January 17th – 23rd 2022

Power of 5k, Lancaster, 21st January 2022

Several members of Preston Harriers took part in the second in this series of 5k races which are hosted by Lancaster & Morecambe AC at the Salt Ayre leisure centre. The course loops around the cycle track and is flat with gentle bends and no sharp turns. Performances across the board reflected the good conditions on the evening and the excellent course. The race was won in a superb time of 14:11 by Jacob Cann from Lancaster University. Preston Harriers’ Emma McColm was first female in 16:59 and Chloe Lam Moores was 3rd female in 17:58. Male Harriers who ran were Billy Reid (17:14), Neil McDonald (18:53, 1st MV50) and Dougie Potter (19:51).

Hoofstones fell race, Todmorden, Saturday 22nd January 2022

The Hoofstones fell race is an 8 mile loop from the Staff of Life pub at Todmorden over wild and boggy moorland where the small amount of navigation required can make all the difference to the final result. This year’s race was won by Sean Godsman of Calder Vale in a new course record of 60:40. First Preston Harrier to finish was Jon Green, who was 11th in 70:48. He was followed by Darren McDermott (17th in 73:41), John Griffiths (25th in 76:19), John Rainford (42nd in 81:19), Steve Bamber (45th in 82:10) and Jim Doherty (78th in 109:23).

In other news …

On the 22nd Jason Parker was in action at the Pilling 10k, were the ageless harrier recorded his fastest time since 2017, to cross the line in 10th place, in a time of 35:03.

Over in America Charlotte Crook was in action on the track, at the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Virginia, where she won the 800metre event in a time of 2:12.04
