Harriers round up July 26th – August 1st – Crorken sets a new standard


BMC Gold Standard meeting 27th July 2021

Whilst all eyes are on Tokyo watching the world’s top athletes do their thing, grassroots athletes were putting in stellar performances of their own, and for Preston Harriers the big event of the week was the BMC Gold Standard meet on the 27th. The standout performances included Tiarnan Crorken winning the 800m A race in a new PB time of 1:46.75, breaking the club 800m men’s record in the process. There were also new 800m PBs for Daniel Bebbington (1:49.99) and Josef Wilson (1:56.45).

Trafford Grand Prix 27 July 2021

The latest Trafford Grand Prix was also held on Tuesday where PBs were the order of the day, with Charlie Haigh (2:03.08), Martha Rayner (2:23.98) and Grace Rayner (2:30.90) all setting new 800m PBs. Matthew Clark (4:28.49), Cieran Milligan (4:33.75), Jack Winstanley (4:39.09), Ethan Chadwick (4:49.37), Louie Clark (4:20.84), Billy Reid (4:25.30), Libby Huxley (4:49.05) all recorded 1500m PBs. Finally, Jenson Warren set a new 3000m PB of 9:46.23 and Emma Harrison recorded a hammer throw PB (45.38).

Media City 10km road race 29 July 2021

The latest instalment of the Media City 10k was held on Thursday in Salford with Jennifer Lock setting a new PB of 52:28 to sneak inside the top 100.

BMC Glasgow regional meeting 30 July 2021

On Friday, Ross McKelvie was in Scotland for the BMC Glasgow regional meet, setting himself a new 5000m track PB of 17:08.95.

Mid Lancs Track & Field League, Litherland, 31 July 2021

Saturday 31st July was a good day for Preston Harriers at the Mid Lancs league meeting at Litherland. Abigail Gregson (100m, senior), Ethan Chadwick (400m, U15) and Lyra Stretch (U15 Long Jump and High Jump) all won their events in style with personal best performances with Abigail Gregson also coming first in the 200m (senior). Lucy Pool (100m U17), Emma Harrison (Hammer, U17) and Kacie Calvert (Javelin) made up the rest of the first finishers. Notable personal performances came from Corey Middleton (U15 100m & Shot Put), Lucie Duckett (U13 100m, Long Jump), Natasha Cooke (U17 300m, U15 Long Jump), Lucas Cooke (U13 800m, Long Jump), Lyra Stretch (100m U13), Isla Bamber (100m U13) and Jack Winstanley (400m U15).

Northern Athletics League, Trafford, 1 August 2021

A run of injuries and a busy calendar meant it was a much reduced team which took to the track and field for the Northern Athletics Senior League meet at Trafford on 1st August. However this didn’t affect Miri Luft, who equalled her personal best in the High Jump to take first place and Scott Sinclair who had a good day taking first place with a PB in the Triple Jump to extend his club record and putting in a strong performance to increase his personal best in the Long Jump. Other noteworthy personal performances came from the hammer team of Tam Dickinson and Alex Proffitt who both achieved new personal bests, Emily Rankin (100m), Billy Reid (800m), Luke Suffolk (5000m), Harry Potter (Discus) and Harvey Noble (Javelin).
