Sun 30 July 2017, Castle Bolton
A record field of 351 runners lined up in the spectacular setting of Castle Bolton in the heart of Wensleydale for this increasingly popular 14km trail race over moorland tracks and paths. This is a race which has everything going for it. The course is challenging, with plenty of ups and downs, but the terrain underfoot is nearly all easy tracks or firm grass, so it’s very runnable, and the views are wonderful. James Herriot’s son usually attends to start the race and present the prizes afterwards. It’s well organised by the Rotary Club of Wensleydale and is a very friendly and informal event which deserves to be better known among runners from the west coast. Kevin and Marian Hesketh flew the flag for Preston Harriers in this year’s race. Kevin finished 69th overall and 4th MV60 in a time of 70.44 and Marian was 139th overall and first FV55 in 78.40. The race was won by Tony Addison of Helm Hill in 54.12.
