Lancashire Schools T & F Championship

Horrendous weather greeted the athletes on one of the most important days of the season. Qualification for the English Schools Track & Field Championship held at Birmingham next month was the prize at the Lancashire Schools Track and Field Championships. Athletes had to achieve the entry standard which would qualify them to be selected for the Lancashire team to compete in Birmingham. With a blustery conditions and continual rain qualification was going to be difficult.

In the intermediate boys Alex Bernstein launched the hammer 57.79m and Isaac Delaney hurled the discus 40.81m; both were more than 7 metres over the qualifying standard. Macy Noblet threw a lifetime best of 12.27m and qualified for the intermediate girls’ shot. Archie Dowds ran 4 tenths inside the junior boys 100m mark of 11.7 but had a helping wind of 2.6 metres per second. Ed Coles ran 14.7 secs with a wind reading of ­+2.3 in winning the senior boys 110m hurdles. Fellow hurdler Harry Burrow posted the exact standard time of 14.0 by winning the intermediate boys 100m hurdles. Junior 75m hurdler Emily Ranking was 0.1 inside the standard of 11.7sec. Darcy Lonsdale ran 3 seconds inside the qualifying mark of 2.16.0 in the intermediate girls 800m, while clubmate Abigail Earnshaw finished third behind Darcy in 2.16.0 exactly. The Lancashire team will be selected later this week.
