Lancashire Sportshall League, 26 Feb 2017


PRESTON HARRIERS ARE LANCASHIRE SPORTSHALL CHAMPIONS FOR THE 9TH CONSECUTIVE SEASON

Preston Harriers showed their dominance over the other Lancashire athletics clubs scoring 395 points compared to their closest rivals Chorley’s 187.5 points. Harriers won 5 of the 6 age group categories with Chorley winning the under 11 girls. Ethan Hallas, Lauren Tunstall, Megan Jackson, Lois Carroll and Emily Rankin won age group ‘Athletes of the Match’ awards. The team of 69 athletes were led by team captains Ethan Tibbs and Maisie Saul, both competing for the last time in Sportshall as they will be too old next year. Ethan scored 25 points out of a possible 28 in the under 15 boys Category. Maisie out jumped all other competitors in the under 15 girls standing long jump, recording 2.14 metres.

In the under 15 girls age group Evie Parkinson was top scorer with 17 points which included a convincing win in the speed bounce recording 81 in the 30 seconds allowed time. Megan Jackson scored 15 points, winning the 2 lap event with 24.4 secs, and Lauren Tunstall won the shot with a 8.33 metre putt.

Macy Noblet, Lois Carroll and Eleanor Noblet, were Harriers best scorers with 20, 16 and 8.5 points respectively in the under 13 girls age group. In the under 11 girls age group Evie Noblett won the standing triple jump with 6.02 metres, Emma Tunstall won the javelin with 16.00 metres and Isabella Buraimo won the vertical jump with 52 centimetres. Evie scored 22 points with Emily Rankin next highest total on 15 points. Ethan Hallas scored 23 points in the under 15 boys category.

The highest scorers in the under 13 boys age group were Will Whiteside, Hayden Middleton, Corey Fernie, Harry Burrows and Charlie Hodgson with 22, 13, 11, 10 and 10 respectively. James Ince, Sebastian Chiarella, Harrison Kiley and Jay Whiteside in the under 11 boys age group scored 21, 13, 12 and 7 points respectively.

This may be the last Lancashire Sportshall league as the organisers Paul Brooke and Laura Breakell are standing down.
