Mearley Clough Fell Race

Tue 8 May 2018, Worston, Clitheroe The first of 4 inter club fell races saw a strong Harriers men’s team dominate the categories. Oliver Heaton (9th), Jon Green (20th), Andy Whaley (30th), Andy Harrison (32nd) and John Rainford (38th) were our 5 counters for the overall team win. For the Vet 40 team win along with Jon Green, Andy Whaley and John Rainford was Dave Parkington (39th). John Griffiths (63rd) completed the Vet 50 team win. Alan Appleby (147th) and Steve Taylor (163rd) ensured a Vet 60 team success to round off the men winning all the categories.

The ladies team improved on last season to finish 2nd with Jenny Wren (109th) leading the way followed by Vicki Sherrington (189th) and Olga Wiggins (197th). There were individual wins for Oliver Heaton (Men), Jon Green (Vet 40), John Rainford (Vet 50) and Jenny Wren (Ladies) who now lead the inter club series ahead of the next race at Austwick.

The race was also a counter for the Preston Harriers fell championship and resulted in a large turnout of 25 Harriers. Individual race prizes went to the ‘youngsters’ in the race with Alan Appleby getting the first Vet 70 prize and George Arnold the first Vet 80 award.
