Morecambe 10k and 5k races, Sunday 11 th June 2023

By Marian Hesketh

With only a gentle sea breeze to temper the heatwave conditions, runners found it hard work

on the promenade at Morecambe, and were also forced to weave a path between the

numerous pedestrians who were out enjoying the sunshine. Members of Preston Harriers

rose to the challenge and recorded some excellent results.

In the 10km race, Luke Suffolk ran strongly for a fine second place in 35 minutes 52 seconds, one of his best results to date.

The 5km race was one of the nominated races for the club’s road running championships and attracted several Harriers who were keen to earn points. Andy Whaley had a brilliant run to finish 3rd overall in 17:09 behind the winner, Edward Brading of Lancaster University, who clocked 16:53. Chris Williams was the next Harrier to finish, taking 6th place in 18:25, and he was followed by Stuart Nixon (18:32), Dougie Potter (19:47), Gareth Fairclough (20:03), Tom Prescott (20:40), and Kevin Hesketh, who was first V65 in 20:46. Charlotte Gregory was 2 nd woman overall in 20:34 and Marian Hesketh was first FV65 in 25:24.
