Pendle 3 Peaks Fell Race

Sat 16 August 2019, Barley Barley Village saw 138 hardy types assemble for the Pendle 3 Peaks Fell Race last Saturday morning (17/8/19). A break in the generally grim weather meant blue sky was spotted, albeit with the occasional shower and stiff breeze. The race is reckoned to be one of the tougher offerings around Pendle, owing to three serious climbs over its 9.4mile length, and runners had a sizeable 2838ft of ascent to handle.

Beginning at the Lower Ogden Reservoir, the anticlockwise loop took winner Chris Holdsworth of Ribble Valley Harriers 1h20mins34s, with Annie Roberts of Todmorden Harriers the first lady in 1h43mins7s, both slightly outside the course records in often boggy and slippery conditions. Preston Harriers had Joseph Sharples back in 2:29:33, who enjoyed the challenge, but found it hard going, particularly the constant steep descending or ascending. Not much respite here! Thanks to the marshals for excellent organisation and support throughout.
