Red Rose Inter Club Race

Wed 6 Sept 2017 Preston Harriers had a grand finale to the 2017 Interclub series with 47 members turning out to take part in the Red Rose hosted event at Worden Park, Leyland.

The blue white and red vests dominated the first twenty places with Gary Pennington, Toney Donnelly, Richard Smith, Stefan Zak, Kevin Hunt, Simon Collins, Dominic Moon, Dave Watson and Chris Miles and at 23rd, Lee Foley completed the open team to come first on the night and first in the series for 2017. Preston’s total on the night was 113, next was Wesham with 293 closely followed by Red Rose. The close grouping of Harriers continued throughout the field and in the Vets category they once again came first with Gary Pennington, Kevin Hunt, Dave Watson, Billy Johnstone, Neil McDonald and Peter Cowling 10 points clear of Red Rose who were 12 points clear of Wesham.

In the V50s Billy Johnstone, Peter Cowling, Mark Billington and Kevin Hesketh came second to Red Rose with Wesham in third place. The V60s category counters were Kevin Hesketh, Alan Appleby and Phil Lakeland; they came third behind Red Rose and Wesham. In the Ladies’ category we had Sarah Wilson closely followed by Vicki Sherrington and Sonya Gandhi with Jade Bebbington just three places behind and Dolly Parkes completed the Harriers counters. Our ladies FV40 team counters were Vicki Sherrington, Heidi Kirkby, Linda Roberts, Julie Tyrer and Maureen Kirkby. Both ladies’ teams came sixth on the night but considering that most are relatively new to running they have all done really well and they were backed up by other team mates who turned out to lend support and gain experience. Not long ago, Harriers struggled to have a ladies’ team! Next year they will no doubt be more successful. We also had Stefan Zak as first junior male, he was backed up by Ben Read. Well done everyone.
