Road Running Near and Far

Wesham Summer 10km road race, Wednesday 25th May 2022

More than 250 runners took up the opportunity to run this popular race in its summer edition, attracted by the fast course and “no frills” organisation. Prolific winner Rob Danson of Wesham had no serious competition at the sharp end and won by over 2 minutes in a time of 32 minutes 7 seconds. Carla Davies from Preston Harriers was 1st lady in 17th place overall in 36:02 and Harriers provided the 2nd lady as well as Jamie Robinson clocked 38:05, only a few seconds outside her personal best. Luke Suffolk was the first Harriers male in 15th place and a new PB of 35:42. Other members of Preston Harriers to take part were Paul Ratan with a PB of 39:12, Dougie Potter (40:49), Peter Cowling (41:55), Stephen Mort (42:39), Stephen Needham (44:01), Sarah Clubb (56:44) and Ben Higginson (57:25).




Edinburgh Marathon Festival, Sunday 29th May 2022

A group from Preston Harriers made a weekend trip to Edinburgh to take part in the various races which make up the Edinburgh Marathon Festival. Keith Rigby completed the 10km race on the Saturday in 66 minutes 9 seconds. The others all bravely tackled either the half or full marathon and for most of them it was their debut at the distance. Fastest Harrier in the half marathon was Alan Metcalf in 1:49:24. Gill Rigby completed the distance in 2:08:26, closely followed by Helen Tattersall in 2:08:52. Maureen Kirkby was 3rd FV70 in 2:09:33 and Rosie Hughes finished just behind her in 2:09:43. In the full marathon, Dale Wallis was the first Harrier in 3:51:38 and Jonny Slater also cracked the 4 hour barrier with 3:52:24. Other Harriers to complete the full marathon were Ian Bebbington (4:09:09), Andrew Lea (4:09:52), Colin Rogerson (4:44:52), Priti Wuppalapati (5:03:29), Heidi Kirkby (5:15:40), Shelley Audis-Riddell (5:15:42) and Siddhartha Wuppalapati (5:26:56).
