Team events are returning

Team events are returning

After what has been a turbulent and challenging period for grass roots athletics, we are pleased to announce that we now have dates for some fantastic team events.

Road Relays

First the road relays, which offer a great opportunity to not only test yourself against of the best runners around at a high-profile competition, but also complete in a proper team like situation have been confirmed as follows:

  • Northwest Road Relays – September 11th Birchwood Park, Warrington

  • Northern Athletics Road Relays – September 18th – Redcar

Please contact either Simon Collins or Emma Essex-Crosby if you wish to take part

Off-road the brilliant Calderdale Way Relay returns on September 26th. This is Britain’s biggest off road club event and is great fun. If you wish to run, please contact Steve Taylor.

Road Championships

There are still places in the Green Drive 5 (October 24th), which doubles as the Lancashire County 5 mile championships and our own Preston 10 (November 21st) which is also the Lancashire and Northern 10 mile championship races. It would be great to have a good turnout at these events and hopefully a good few of you will come away with individual or team medals!

We will also need volunteers for the Preston 10 – contact Maureen Kirkby to get your name on the volunteers list There’s plenty of space for entries at Without volunteers the race cannot go ahead and we would appreciate those of you who decide to run providing an alternative marshal if possible.

Cross Country

We now have provisional dates for increasingly competitive Mid-Lancashire cross country league and they are as follows:

  • Burnley October 9th

  • Hynburn November 13th

  • Liverpool November 27th

  • Blackpool January 15th

  • Leigh February 12th

  • Burnley March 12th

Something different

A few seniors have signed up to the Pennine Trail series, which again gives the club the opportunity to win a team trophy. It would also act as good pre cross country season practice. August 27th, September 7th and 14th.
