Track & Field Weekend Round Up


Sat / Sun 14/15 May Dever and Coleman break records and Bernstein close to GB selection Preston’s Patrick Dever was in dominant form winning the 1,500m and 5,000m events at the American Athletic Conference Championships on Sunday at the USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, Florida. He set new conference championship records for both distances in the process, running 3:41.18 for the 1500m and 13:41.68 in the 5000m.

Alex Bernstein is edging closer to team GB selection in the hammer throw after recording a new PB of 65.18 at the spring throws events which puts him 1.5m ahead of his nearest rival.

On Wednesday May 12th, Sophie Rotheram ran a new 1500m PB of 4:43.61 to place 4th at the University of Birmingham Track and Field Series.

14 Harriers made their way to the Trafford Open meet on Saturday 15th May with highlights including Matthew Clark winning heat 14 of the 800m in a new PB time of 2:14.35, and Eddie Chandler finishing 3rd in heat 4, in a new PB of 2:46.65. Corey Middleton was first in pool 1 of the long jump covering 4.94m and second in pool 2 of the high jump recording a new PB of 1.40m. Harry Appleton was second in heat 5 of the 300m and third in pool 1 of the shot put, throwing 10.36m and finally Cerys Allen was second in the U15 women’s 100m in a new PB of 13:42. Elsewhere there were PBs for Cieran Milligan (800m), Isla Bamber (800m & long jump), William Moorhouse (1500m) and Olivia Rankin (long jump).

Harriers stateside Preston Harriers have a number of athletes based in America on sports scholarships and this week saw Jamaine Coleman setting a new club 3000m steeplechase record of 8:29.39 at the Lee University Last Chance meet in Cleveland, Tennessee. Charlotte Crook ran a new 1500m PB of 4:21.64 to take third at the American Outdoor All-Conference Championship, whilst Kian Davis also set a new 1500m PB of 3:44.28 at the Big 12 Championship in Kansas.
