XC is baa-ck!

On Saturday 14th October a number of Preston Harriers took a trip to the rolling hills and fields of Kendal in the Lakes to take part in the first Mid Lancs Cross Country League fixture of the winter season.

The recent heavy rain had left the Westmorland Showground course soft underfoot and boggy in places and this - combined with a good ol' climb on each lap - meant runners were certainly challenged to stay both upright and moving swiftly. However as you can see from the photos here, there was pently of grit and determination in the Lake District air: https://www.flickr.com/photos/148140721@N02/albums/72177720311955618 Lead by team captains Cathy Fltcroft, Dougie Potter and Wesley Wilkinson, and supported by - amongst others - Harriers' stalwarts, Marian Hesketh, Sue Wickham and Steve Taylor (who were on cheer/cake/camera duties respectively), the Harriers performed well and showed real team spirit. The senior women in particular exceeded and placed first complete team overall. A brilliant start! Libby Huxley came first in the women's race, followed home by Emma McColm who made her first appearance following the birth of her child. New member Emma Watson placed third for the team and had a great debut run. The men showed real promise for the fixtures to come too. The men's team placed 6th overall, with those who are lucky enough to be classed at vets giving some solid performances to earn Preston Harriers a fourth place finish in this category. The next fixture takes place on Saturday 25th November at Sefton Park in Liverpool, and it promises to be a great day with this event doubling up as the highly anticipated British Athletics Cross Challenge fixture, incorporating the trials for the European Cross Country.
