Road Running: Training
There are road and track based interval sessions taking place on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings throughout the year. A brief guide to interval training is available here
To use the track you will need to pay a Preston Harriers official at the gate or have a Summer Track Pass from the club. Further information on the use of the track and Track Passes:
Tuesday Night Track Session - Start time 18:30
Training consists of interval sessions during summer and winter. All abilities are welcome, with different paced groups running the intervals. Track Schedules:
Tuesday and Thursday Night Running Fitness Group
This is a free Ladies and Mens Running Starter Group. It is a road based session led by a UKA qualified coach and supported by qualified ‘Leaders in Running Fitness’ and is particularly suited to newcomers to running, and intermediate runners. Tuesdays are intervals and hills training, Thursday on the road doing varying distances upto 10 miles with cut off points for shorter distances.
Venue at Avenham & Miller Parks. Start Time 6:30pm and meeting on the corner opposite the Continental pub.
Wednesday Night Track Session
This session is for everyone, from those just starting out to experienced runners. The sessions are led by club coaches, Steve Jackson and Alan Appleby. It is an interval session based on a set distance or set time run.
Summer (Apr – Sept) 7.00pm
Winter (Oct – Mar) 7.00pm
Meet at the cabin on the far side of the track from the entrance.
From April to September, the Under 11 group have a general session which finishes at 7pm, therefore the group cannot access the track for any warm up until 7pm.
Thursday Night Tempo Session
These sessions are uncoached and aimed at seniors with a sub 22min 5K PB.

Winter (Oct – Mar)
Venue: Preston Docks Halfords Car Park, 2 Maritime Way, PR2 2ZB
Time: 6:50pm for 7:00pm Start
This session is around Preston Docks, comprising a 5K (2 laps) tempo/threshold run, plus warm up and cool down.
Summer (Apr – Sept)
Venue: The Continental, South Meadow Lane, PR1 8JP
Time: 6:30pm Start
This session, not coached, is a tempo or progression run of 6 – 8 miles.
There is a free Preston 5k parkrun every Saturday morning at 9.00am from Avenham Park. Preston Harriers do not organise it, although many of our runners do regularly use parkrun as a training session. In the winter months we have a cross country training session from the same venue shortly after parkrun finishes.

There is a free junior Preston 2k Parkrun every Sunday morning at 9.00am from Avenham Park.
