Here's Marian's report from Wesham's Inter-Club on 17th July

After last year’s race was postponed due to exceptionally hot weather, runners were

relieved to have a sunny, breezy evening for the Wesham inter club race around the lanes of

Salwick.

Preston Harriers were hoping for more success in the summer-long competition and

turned out in force for this race. In the absence of regular winner Rob Danson, the top spot

was up for grabs and the spoils eventually went to Blackpool runner Marco Parolin in a time

of 23 minutes 2 seconds for the four and a half mile course. Sam Evans chased hard for 2nd

place in 23:15 and his training partner, Wes Wilkinson, was hot on his heels, taking 3 rd place

only 5 seconds behind. Luke Suffolk was 8 th in 23:53.

The other scorers for Harriers’ open team were Jason Parker (20th ), Martin Phillips (21st ), Chris Williams (30th ), Peter Gibson (31 st ), Steve Hallas (32nd ), David Watson (35th ) and first lady Jamie Robinson in 40 th place overall. Further down the field, David Lea ran well to place 1 st V60 in 28:43. The team packed in well but once again they had to give way to Blackpool in the team stakes.

The women’s team had more success and took the top spot again. Backing up Jamie

Robinson were Michelle Chadwick in 3rd place, Charlotte Gregory in 7th , Cathy Flitcroft in 11 th and Chloe Reid in 14 th . New member Liz Horne, pictured below, had a great run and only just missed out onbeing a member of the scoring team when she misjudged the finish and Chloe Reid was able to sneak past her on the line. After 5 races, Harriers’ women now lead the standings

and could potentially be overall winners at the end of the season.
