Introducing Director Dave…

We are really excited to share the news that this year’s Preston 10 event will be taking place on Sunday 17th November, with Dave Flitcroft taking the helm as Race Director. Dave is keen to continue the work of the previous Run Directors and maintain this as a premier event with its Lancashire championship status.

Dave is a lifelong runner. He started out with LIverpool Harriers as a youth and then became a member of Bolton Harriers, staying with the club for nearly 30 years. He has since moved to the Preston area with his equally athletically-dedicated wife Cathy and become an invaluable Preston Harrier.

Whilst at Bolton Dave was also an endurance coach for 18 years, looking after the 11– 18 year old athletes. He now continues to wear his coaching hat for Preston, working with the Tuesday-Thursday Development group for seniors - whatever the weather.

Dave is still an active runner himself and despite injuries plaguing, he enjoys both 5km and 10km events. He has also taken on duathlons in order to help with endurance and states that ‘just being able to run and compete brings its own rewards in twilight years’.

For anyone planning to enter in November Dave advises not to get hung up on the time you run as there are factors outside your control, but instead simply remember how happy you are running and enjoy the experience with your family, friends and fellow athletes. The Preston 10 encompasses the Harriers’ club ethos and couldn’t take place without the full support of club members! We are lucky to have a wide skill-set within the club and we will be recruiting volunteers for both promoting the event and  for the event day itself, so keep an eye on the news pages for more information over the coming months 🙂

We are also keen to learn and develop ideas, so if anyone has been involved in the past races and would like to give feedback or suggestions as to how 2024 can be better than ever, it would be gladly received.

For any questions, queries or suggestions you can contact Dave directly onflitcroftd246@gmail.comor send a message via the website contact form.
