Mid Lancs League cross country fixture at Burnley, Saturday 11th March 2023

The final Mid Lancs League fixture in the cross country season took place at Towneley Park, one of the venues that hosts races on a regular basis. The numbers competing were down on past events this season, which was very disappointing and this was the same for all the clubs. However, the senior men had a real opportunity to win the Division One Championship and they duly turned out as they have all season and delivered the title! Over 9.8k, Wes Wilkinson was first counter for the club and 8th overall. An excellent season for Wilkinson saw him finish 2nd overall in the men's standings over the five fixtures in the season. Chris Tully was 16th, Matthew Sowerby 19th and Simon Collins 25th. Andy Whaley was 34th and David Lea 52nd. The placings were enough to secure a 1pt team victory on the day from Southport Waterloo and the better overall record across the whole season and the 3 best results from 5 events to secure the league win. There were enough runners to count a B team too with runs from Mark Lee, Paul Ratan, Dave Watson, Steve Boardman, John Griffiths and Roy Parkinson.

The women also turned out, but not with the same depth and it wasn't enough to stave off relegation from Division One. Over 5.8k, Cathy Flitcroft was 19th; Sharon Wilkinson, Julie Tyrer, Marian Hesketh, and Sue Wickham all contributed. Alan Appleby was first vet 70 and finished 2nd overall in his age category in the season.

Mention must be made of a trio of young under 11s at Burnley; Harry Davies ran his first event. Luke Mort has run most of the races and so has Charlie Benson.

In the inter counties cross country championship race at Loughborough, Matthew Drummond Clark was an outstanding 2nd whilst running for the Lancashire team.
