White Coppice Junior Time Trial Final Race

Tuesday 12th September

A cool, wet night greeted seven fell runners, six juniors and one adult, who were competing in the final race of the season, the White Coppice Junior Time Trial. Three previous races had determined what handicap was given to the runners on the night and after a 3k warm-up run on the course, the first runners prepared to set off in their given order. First to lead the way was Emily Wiggins, who had been struggling a little in warm-up, so she was given a generous handicap time on the others to compensate. Olga, Emily’s mum followed next, then Jamie Hawtin, Arron Baldwin, Cory Gill, Vladimir Wiggins and finally Luke Suffolk.

The weather proceeded to get worst after Olga had commented on how nice it was, but after 16 minutes, two distant figures could be seen charging along the Goyt towards me. Leading the way was Jamie, who had passed Emily earlier in the race and was making a concerted effort to take the honours. However, Emily had other ideas about that and made a late surge to pip Jamie on the line in 16:22 min ( I thought she would struggle. A lesson to be learned for next year!!!). Third place went to Cory, a minute after Jamie in 17:27min, shortly after that came Arron, followed by Vlad and Luke (fastest on the night) who were having a tremendous battle to get over the line next. Finally, Olga completed the race with a steady run in 19 minutes with camera in hand!!

Well done to everyone who took part in the race and a big thank you to Simon Hawtin and Ian Baldwin for marshalling the course on the night.
