Chorley Inter Club Road Race

Temperatures were soaring in Astley Park for the Chorley inter club race, and runners were glad of whatever shade they could find. The competition was sizzling too as the summer-long series of races moved towards its conclusion, with all the participating clubs fighting for vital points. Once again, the race was won by Wesham’s Rob Danson, and he was followed into the finish by a trio of Blackpool runners. Preston Harriers’ men had turned out in force for this event and made their presence felt at the sharp end of the race. Sam Evans was the first Harrier across the line in 5th place. Junior Luke Suffolk was next, in 13th, with Wesley Wilkinson just behind him in 14th and Mariusz Kovacs in 16th. The other scoring members of Preston Harriers’ team were Andy Whaley (21st), Chris Williams (24th), Alex Venables (28th), Stuart Nixon (41st), David Watson (43rd) and Gary Wilson (46th). Once again, Preston came second to a dominant Blackpool team but they hold a clear margin over 3rd placed Wesham. Preston’s Vet 50 team have won at every fixture so far and are now unbeatable in the final standings. Cathy Flitcroft was the first female Harrier in an excellent 6th place and the other women who ran were Marian Hesketh, Julie Tyrer, Sue Wickham, Jenny McDonald and Kari Edwards.
