Double Gold for Alex

Congratulations and well done to Preston Harrier Alex Bernstein on completing an excellent back to back double gold achievement, at two of the season’s premiere athletic competitions.

His first Gold medal was won on Saturday 13 July, as part of the Lancashire team at the English schools competition held at the Alexander stadium in Birmingham. In a competitive final he managed a very good throw of 63.47 metres and led from the front. The following Saturday 20 July as a member of the England team, Alex travelled down to Swansea and triumphed in a convincing performance in the SIAB International competition against athletes from England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland. Four throws were recorded, each successfully progressive, culminating in a fantastic final round of 68.01 metres or just over 223 feet. An impressive new PB that now places Alex 22 in the UK all time rankings and number two in the country.

Alex would like to express a very special thank you to his dedicated and knowledgeable coaches Bob Welfare & Andy Jeans at Preston Harriers, all the respective athletic competition event organisers/officials/volunteers and for the humbling messages of support from all over the country, including the community of hammer throwers, coaches, friends and fellow competitors.

Alex is next due to compete as part of the Hammer Circle team travelling to Lieria in Portugal, for the International Throws meeting on the 3 & 4 August. Alex would also like to covey an individual thank you to Dave and Diane Smith at the Hammer Circle for organising this exceptional development opportunity.

Competing in the under 17 (5kg) category, Alex is currently Lancashire County, Lancashire Schools, English Schools and SIAB Champion.

Proud parents Graham and Clair are chuffed to bits. Well done lad!
