George and Scott Shine at Ashton

Senior League - Ashton-under-Lyne

A packed schedule and key events missing from the schedule led to a severely weakened team for Preston Harriers in the Northern Senior Track and Field league, but the team put in some great performances at Ashton-Under-Lyne to lay down solid foundations for the start of the season.

Outstanding performances came from George Lowe, who romped away with first place with a huge 51.61 meter throw in Javelin, beating his closest rival by 11.5 meters, took second place in shot and equalled his Season best in High Jump. Equally outstanding was Scott Sinclair who took 2 nd place in High Jump, equalling his personal best, and won the triple and long jumps. Stellar performances on the track came from Josh Ingham who took 2 nd place in 100m, 200m and 400m sprints and Chris Livesey who took 2 nd in the 800m and 3 rd in the 1500m.

For the ladies, Miri Luft and Kacie Calvert put in good performances in the field with Miri taking equal 2 nd in the high jump and 2 nd in shot and Kacie being narrowly beaten into 2 nd in Javelin. Miri also took 2 nd in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles.

Honourable mentions should go to marathon specialists Julie Tyrer and Sue Wickham who braved the 800 and 1500 meters in the soaring temperatures to earn points for the team.
