Fairclough 5 Mile Road Race

Sun 27 Oct 2019, Thornton A large contingent of Preston Harriers descended on the Fairclough 5 this weekend, continuing the tradition of supporting smaller, club organised races. With a strong starting lineup which included eventual winner, Wesham’s Rob Danson, the Harriers ventured forth on a lovely clear, autumnal day. Getting to the start was a challenge as the previous day’s monsoon conditions had ensured that Thornton’s equivalent of Lake Windermere had sprung up in the middle of the course, but undeterred we all tackled the gently undulating course with gusto.

First home for Preston was junior Luke Suffolk, who completed his first 5 mile race in 35:22. Next in was Steve Boardman, who continued his return by slashing over a minute off his previous week’s time. Kate Lakeland was 3rd Harrier home with a time of 39:07, followed by Dad, Phil Lakeland, at 43:03. Second lady for Preston was Sue Wickham with a season’s best of 47:37 followed by Helen Boyer with 51:48. Other Harriers to run were Matthew Suffolk, who came in with a PB of 48:41, Alex Proffitt (52:06), Kari Edwards (54:53) and Adela Nuttall (61:33).
