Harriers round up August 2nd to August 8th

The weekend saw the staging of the England U15/U17 championships at Sport City Manchester. Stand out performances include Jay Whiteside finished second in the U15 high jump, clearing 1.76m, Isaac Delaney finished second in the shot put, throwing 16.77m and Emily Rankin and Queenivette Nguta both setting new 100m PBs.

On the Saturday Sophie Warden and Alex Bernstien were in action at the National Athletics League Championship North, which was held in Wigan. Warden went in the 400metre hurdles were she ran a time of 73.54, whilst Bernstien set a new hammer throw PB of 67.53m. Since this meet it has been announced that Alex has been selected to represent England at the Under-20 Manchester International.

On Sunday the City of Preston 5 and 10 mile races where held in Warmer Bridge, with Chris Livesey and Luke Suffolk competing in the 5 mile and Mariej Jarno going in the 10 mile. Livesey took 4th place in the five, in a time of 25:33, whilst Suffolk ran a new PB to finish 12th in 29:24. Jarno completed the 10 mile in a respectable time of 1hr14m.

Up on the mountains, a small group of Harriers made their way to Scotland for the Glenshee 9 Hill race, which is a 20 mile race across the 9 Munro’s bordering Glenshee Ski Centre in the East Highlands. Rob Mitchell was the first of the Harrier to finish the race, taking 30th place overall, Alistair Palmer was not far behind finishing 32nd. Jon Green (106th) and Michael McLoughlin (157th) also completed the race.
