London Mini Marathon

Sun 23 April 2017

While Preston’s seniors were concentrating on the 26 miles of the main event on Sunday several of Preston Harriers’ youngsters had been selected to represent the North West in the London Mini Marathon. The race takes place on the last 3 miles of the famous course, starting at Billingsgate and finishing on The Mall, and is for young athletes between the ages of 11 and 17. The top six runners at each age group, from each of the nation’s regions, and the 33 London Boroughs compete in the event.

In the U13 girls race Scarlett Sutton, completing her first ever mini marathon, finished in a very creditable 31st position (18:24). Ben Preddy ran in the U15 boys race finishing in the top half of the field although a problem with his chip means we are awaiting an official time and place. In the u17 girls race Blythe Fourie finished in 38th position (18:01) and this was on the back of claiming 2nd place the previous day in the English College XC Champs. The U17 boys race saw Nathan Dunn race his final mini marathon. and he was in the leading pack from the start. The final 600m saw a charge for the line with Nathan claiming 6th place (14:34) to round of a great winter season of racing.
