The opportunity to race on closed roads as part of the local carnival attracted a large field of runners. The race was won by Marc Brown of Salford Harriers in 15.28. Preston Harriers who took part were Karl Hodgson, who was 8th in 17.01, Kevin Hunt (12th in 17.41), David Watson (15th in 18.08), Dougie Potter (32nd in 19.39), Victoria Duckett (22.50), Alan Littler (24.06), Sue Wickham (27.37) and Helen Boyer (28.14).
