Wesham Inter Club Race

Mon 23 July 2018

A very warm and humid evening faced runners at the most recent local road interclub race, organised by Wesham on the one lap course, on mostly quiet roads from Salwick. Over 4 ½ miles, Rob Affleck finished 2nd in 24.15 behind a dominant Rob Danson of Wesham who won in 22.52. Richard Smith showed good form to finish 4th in 24.41 and Karl Hodgson crossed the line in 8th in 25.27. Simon Robinson was the next Preston counter in 11th, and Simon Collins was just one place behind getting the same time as Dave Watson, in 13th, of 26.04.

Jon Green, taking a break from running on the fells, was a fine 20th and the consistently strong Lee Foley was 24th. With Andy Whaley (29th) and the irrepressible Neil McDonald (31st) completing the team counting positions, Harriers recorded another open team victory on the night, making it four wins from the first five fixtures with two left to run.

A vets’ team win and a vet 50 team win, with counters Dave Watson, Neil McDonald, Mark Lee and Kevin Hesketh was also recorded. The first lady for Harriers was Jenny Wren, who was 5th lady overall in 31.08. Victoria Cowling was 10th lady in 32.29 and the other team counters were Jade Bebbington. Vicki Sherrington and Julie Tyrer. There were 244 finishers.
