Wigan 5k report

Both club captains Cathy Flitcroft and Dougie Potter supported and rallied the troops at this club championship event, and Cathy has kindly provided us with a report too.

The latest event in the Road Club Championships took place on 17th March, a 5k which was run as part of the Wigan Festival of running.

On a very damp day 21 Preston Harriers lined up along with more than 700 other runners in this out and back course supporting the Joining Jack charity 👉 https://joiningjack.org

This was the first official 5k for a lot of the Harriers and made a pleasant change from their usual parkrun which made for a great atmosphere and a number of PBs

.

First home for Preston was Martin Phillips, 8th overall in a chip time of 17:06 followed by an influx of Harriers all achieving sub 19 mins. Jonny Slater 18:38, Luke Baker 18:42, Stuart Nixon (V40) 18:39, Richard Southworth 18:47, Steve Tappenden (V40) 18:49 and David Lea who won the V60 category in a truly amazing time of 18:51!

Next home was youngster Adam Link in 19:06 (a big change from his usual Track and Field events of sprinting and jumping), followed by Michael Croft (V40) 19:04 and Tom Prescott 19:23.

1st Preston lady home was Chloe Reid, 4th lady overall in a very impressive 19:47, just ahead of Dougie Potter (V40) 19:48.

From here a further influx of Harriers followed with Charlotte Gregory 20:51, Dave Flitcroft (V60) 21:08 and 2nd in his age category, Cathy Flitcroft (V60) 22:36, 1st in age category, Kim Slater (V50) 23:09 1st in age category, Ellie Douglas 24:53 (first time achieving sub 25), Julie Tyrer (V45) 26:57, Dorothy Parkes (V40) 27:49, Susan Ashcroft (V60) 28:22 and Sue Wickham (V60) 31:11.

Overall, a great turnout and it was nice to see so many blue vests on display 💙

The next event in the Road Club Champs is the Caldervale 10 miler on 29th March, followed by the first Inter Club race at Blackpool on 10th April.
