Northern Athletics Mens 12 Stage & Womens 6 Stage Relay Sun 22 March 2020, Birkenhead Park Athletics is at its heart an individual sport, road running in particular. All athletes have their own individual aspirations and interests. However occasionally, an opportunity to compete as a team on the roads presents itself and in 2020 the first of these events is the highly prestigious Northern Athletics 12 & 6 stage road relays, on March 22nd.
For those who are not familiar with this event; This is a medal event, with individual and team medals up for grabs, as well as a place in the national relay championships. It is open to runners aged 17+ (as of September 1st 2019) and the club may enter as many teams as they wish. The men’s teams consists of 12 runners and the women’s 6 runners.
The standard of running is usually very high at the front end and the course tend to be a fast one, giving runners both a good race, an opportunity to record a fast time, put their name out and help promote the club. All senior (17+) first claim club members, of all abilities, are invited to express an interest in taking part in this fantastic event by emailing the clubs road running captains at phroadrunning@gmail.com by 22nd Feb to ensure that the club has plenty of time to organise teams.
